The Athletic have suggested that Fabio Paratici’s presence at Tottenham might scupper the chances of Mauricio Pochettino being appointed as Antonio Conte’s replacement.
The report reveals that Daniel Levy only decided to appoint Paratici as the managing director of football back in 2021 once it became clear that he would not be able to bring Pochettino back to the club at the time.

The thinking was reportedly that Levy would either appoint the Argentine as the manager or bring in Paratici, who would then pick the next head coach, with the prospect of both of them being at the club at the same time never being on the cards.
The Athletic also state that Paratici might be jeopardising the power he has built up at the club if Pochettino returns as the 51-year-old would take the Italian’s place as the ‘charismatic king of the training ground’.
It is explained that while Pochettino can work with a director of football, Tottenham’s managing director might not want to appoint someone who can challenge his power.
However, the report adds that it was Levy, not Paratici, who had a decisive role in appointing Antonio Conte, and the same could happen again this summer with Pochettino.

We must also consider the fact that the verdict of Paratici’s appeal after his ban is yet to arrive (following Juve’s capital gains verdict), which could have an impact on his future at Tottenham.
It is not implausible that Levy could change the structure again in the summer by parting ways with the Italian and handing control to Pochettino.
