The Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham Hotspur have spent over £1 billion on transfers since they last lifted a competitive trophy.
Spurs fans will know all too well that the Lilywhites haven’t added a new piece of silverware to their cabinet since back in 2008 when they defeated Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final.
However, fast forward over 15 years and Spurs are still yet to follow up on that win with any other trophy, despite making multiple League Cup finals, the Champions League Final, and being involved in back-to-back Premier League title races.
Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, and owners ENIC have a reputation for keeping their wallets in their pockets in North London, but it turns out that over £1 billion has been spent in the last 15 years.
Spurs are one of four Premier League clubs to have spent this amount since their last trophy haul, although Everton (1995), West Ham (1980), and Newcastle (1955) have waited a whole lot longer to rack up that total.
Spurs Web Opinion:
It often feels like Spurs have spent less than they actually have because so many of the big-money signings have failed to hit the ground running in North London, including the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Roberto Soldado, and Giovani Lo Celso.
