Ruben Amorim has brushed aside suggestions that he could quit Sporting Lisbon to move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Amorim is one of a whole host of names from across Europe who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham over the last couple of weeks.
The speculation linking the Sporting boss with the Tottenham hot seat first emerged in the Portuguese press, with Correio da Manha claiming last month that the Lions head coach is desired by a number of European clubs, but the Lilywhites were leading the race for his signature.
The 38-year-old reportedly has a £17.7m release clause in his current contract, which drops to £13.2m at the end of the current season (The Guardian).
However, A Bola (29/03/23 as relayed by SportWitness) revealed a few days ago that Amorim had ruled himself out of contention for the Spurs job since he had reservations about working with Daniel Levy.
The Portuguese coach has now played down the possibility of replacing Antonio Conte in North London.
When asked if he could reunite with Pedro Porro at Tottenham, Amorim told Mais Futebol: “Obviously I really enjoyed working with Porro.
“It’s difficult for us to buy Porro, so I see it with difficulty.
“Porro made his choice, it’s normal, they are different championships.
“He would also have more difficulties now, because Esgaio is doing very well, it would be a healthy fight between him and Esgaio to play at Sporting, it’s only in this aspect that I see the possibility of working with Porro again.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think Amorim has done enough in his coaching career to warrant a top-six Premier League job.
The 38-year-old would have to prove his metal in one of the top five leagues in Europe to really make himself a tempting option for the elite clubs across the continent.
