According to a new report in The Telegraph, Leicester City will ask for £50 million to part ways with James Maddison amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Maddison has been one of Leicester’s star performers since joining the Midlands club from Norwich in 2018.
He has amassed 194 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 54 goals and registering 38 assists (Transfermarkt).
Recently, the Daily Mail suggested Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is intent on signing Maddison this summer regardless of who comes in as the next manager at the club.
The fact that Leicester are currently down in 19th place in the Premier League table will not be doing the club any favours in their attempts to keep hold of Maddison.
The 26-year-old’s current contract expires next summer and it has been suggested Leicester are ready to cash in on their star man (The Athletic).
Despite Tottenham’s interest, the latest from Football Insider claims Newcastle United have now moved into pole position to sign the England international.
According to the Telegraph, whoever attempts to sign Maddison will have to pay £50 million to get the deal over the line.
The report claims it is Tottenham who are “leading the race” for the creative midfielder who is “increasingly likely” to leave Leicester in the summer.
With “no breakthrough” in discussions over a new deal for Maddison, Leicester are in a position where they now “risk a situation similar to Tielemans,” who is available on a free transfer this summer having run down his contract.
Spurs Web Opinion
For me, James Maddison is an absolute priority this summer.
I know we need to work on our defence and find a new goalkeeper, but for £50 million we would be getting one of the bests English midfielders in the game who would totally transform our attacking play.
We have to make this happen.
