Ben Jacobs has claimed that the race for David Raya’s signature will be between Tottenham and Chelsea this summer if David De Gea remains at Manchester United.
Spurs are expected to be on the lookout for Hugo Lloris’ successor in the summer, with reports over recent months indicating that Raya is one of the names at the top of the North London club’s wishlist (The Daily Mail).
The Spaniard, whose stock has grown considerably over the last few years, is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Brentford Community Stadium in June (Transfermarkt).
Bees boss Thomas Frank admitted back in February that the goalkeeper has already turned down two different contract offers from the club (Sky Sports).
Fabrizio Romano took to social media a few days ago to reveal that Brentford would accept around £35m for Raya, adding that the 27-year-old is being monitored by ‘many important clubs’
Jacobs has now suggested that while the United hierarchy have discussed the Bees shot-stopper, any move for him from the Red Devils would depend on De Gea’s future.
The journalist told CaughtOffside on Substack: “Manchester United have discussed Raya – especially knowing Dean Henderson is unlikely to play for them again since he wants to be No.1 or nothing – but if de Gea stays, it will be Spurs and Chelsea pushing for Raya.”

Among the goalkeepers on the market, Raya is clearly the most attractive option.
Not only is he one of the best shot-stoppers around and excellent with the ball at his feet, but his contract situation means that he could end up being cheaper than other options such as Robert Sanchez, Diogo Costa and Jordan Pickford.
