Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham are keen to finalise a new three-year deal for Eric Dier.
Even though Dier has come in for some criticism from sections of the Spurs fan base, he has been a mainstay in the Spurs starting eleven under four different managers in North London since making the switch from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014.
The centre-back is reportedly on an £85,000-a-week contract and will enter the final year of his deal this June (Transfermarkt).
Football Insider have now revealed that Tottenham have already opened talks with the 29-year-old regarding a new contract ahead of the summer.
The report adds that the North Londoners want to tie Dier down to a new deal irrespective of who takes over as their next head coach.
The publication states that there is willingness from both the player’s entourage and the club to agree on a new deal that runs until 2026.
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if the new head coach decides that he does not want Dier, Tottenham would want to sell him for a decent fee, which is why it would make no sense to allow the centre-back to run his contract down.
While this news will not go down with some sections of the Tottenham fan base, it is a no-brainer for the club to secure the future of a player who has been a regular in the starting eleven over the last few years.
