Arne Slot has opened up on his decision to turn down an offer from Leeds United earlier this season and admitted his admiration for the Premier League.
Slot has completely transformed Feyenoord since taking over at De Kuip in 2021.
The Dutchman led the club to the Europa Conference League final last season and the Rotterdam-based side look set to create history by winning the Eredivisie title this campaign.
The speculation linking the 44-year-old with a move to Tottenham shows no signs of slowing down, with 90 min reporting a couple of days ago that the Feyenoord manager is one of the candidates that the North London club are keen to speak to.
Spurs are not the only side who have shown interest in Slot with The Times reporting last week that Leeds tried to appoint him in January while Crystal Palace and West Ham United are eyeing moves for him this summer.
Slot has now admitted that Leeds’ offer did not come at the right time and also suggested that it might be ideal to leave Feyenoord on a high.
He told ESPN: “I think Leeds is a very nice club. The moment in the middle of the season, where you still have so much to play for at Feyenoord, I didn’t think that was a good time to leave for England.
“Then there is also a huge challenge at Feyenoord. It was also much better from a family point of view to stay here for a while.
“The Premier League is of course the number one competition in Europe. Although I also follow developments in Italy with great interest.
“I also think it is very valuable to leave somewhere in a positive way. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, for example, became champion here, but a year later his life no longer looked so nice.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This appears like a clear admission from Slot that he could leave Rotterdam this summer after guiding the club to the title.
While I am sure that Tottenham will hold discussions with the 44-year-old, I do not think he is the candidate the club are likely to favour, which is why I expect the Dutchman to end up at Palace.
