Experienced Dutch manager Aad de Mos has urged Feyenoord midfielder, Orkun Kokcu, to join a club like Tottenham Hotspur rather than a giant such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Kokcu has been extremely consistent in the middle of the park for Feyenoord this campaign, with the 22-year-old’s displays being a key reason why the club currently sit at the top of the Eredivisie table.
The Daily Mirror reported last week that the midfielder’s performances had caught Tottenham’s attention, with the North London club said to have sent scouts to the Netherlands to run the rule over him recently.
The publication added that Spurs could face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Brighton, Leicester, West Ham and Brentford for the Turkish international, who has scored 12 goals and provided four assists across all competitions this campaign.
De Mos believes that Kokcu would be better off joining a club that sit just below the elite status, such as Spurs, Roma and AC Milan, rather than moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
When asked about Real Madrid’s rumoured interest in the midfielder, the 76-year-old told Feyenoord Pings (as translated by Sport Witness): “I don’t believe that (Real Madrid). We do play in the Dutch league against Cambuur.
“We’ll see when we’ve played against Rome on Thursday. If he stays upright there in that witch-hall with Feyenoord in midfield, then we can start talking about a club playing in the sub-top in Spain or England.
“I think Lazio Rome and Roma, AC Milan and Tottenham, those are teams that could definitely fit. That then has to do with the philosophy and the vision.
“Selecting through and wanting to build with a young squad, then he is a building block I would like to have in there. I think he should look at a club that really suits him.
“He shouldn’t make the mistake of going to Bayern Munich because, of course, there is a hierarchy that determines who will or won’t play, and that also determines whether a coach is good enough.”

Kokcu has certainly shown maturity beyond his years for Feyenoord over the last couple of years and he will likely get a big move this summer.
However, I am sceptical if his performances in the Eredivisie are transferable to the Premier League and would expect Spurs to go after a more proven performer such as Maddison.
