Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of being appointed as the new manager of Chelsea, according to The Telegraph.

Large sections of the Tottenham Hotspur fanbase have sung the name of their favourite son from the stands both at home and away in recent weeks following the dismissal of Antonio Conte.

Journalist Guillem Balague revealed on Twitter earlier this evening that Tottenham have at no stage made direct contact with Pochettino to return to north London and are instead looking for a less experienced manager.

Pochettino’s backroom staff, who previously supported him at Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are also expected to join him at Stamford Bridge which comprises of assistant manager and head of conditioning Jesus Perez, first-team coach Miguel D’Agostino, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and his son Sebastiano, a sports scientist.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy decided earlier today to part company with acting head coach Cristian Stellini following the 6-1 drubbing at Newcastle United and has appointed Ryan Mason for the remaining six matches of the season.

Tottenham have gone from a head coach, to an assistant manager and are now on the assistant’s assistant manager – with the greatest respect to Mason while fans now have to watch Pochettino, a man who understood the fans and the style of football which was the best they have seen in decades now look to turn around Chelsea’s fortunes.

Daniel Levy claimed in his statement he takes full responsibility, however, he has again made another huge error by not picking up the phone to Pochettino – a man who could have helped to mend the massive wedge between the boardroom and the fans.
