Chelsea reportedly ended their interest in hiring Julian Nagelsmann as their new permanent manager after having fears over the way he would handle big-name players at the club.
Nagelsmann forged an impressive reputation for himself at German clubs Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, before moving on to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The 35-year-old was relieved of his duties there last month, after losing the top spot in the league. Nagelsmann has been linked with a number of top roles since.
One such club is Tottenham Hotspur, and a recent report from Sport Bild suggested Nagelsmann is keen to secure the job there after apparently walking away from Chelsea’s discussions.
Journalist Pedro Almeida even claimed Nagelsmann is ready to accept the offer to be Spurs’ new boss should that offer arrive.
However, it is thought he will want certain guarantees from the Tottenham board when it comes to transfer strategy (The Telegraph).
Despite reports claiming it was Nagelsmann who turned down Chelsea, a piece from Football Insider suggests it was the other way around, with the West London club having doubts over Nagelsmann’s man management approach.
Sources told the publication that Chelsea were indeed “impressed by Nagelsmann’s technical quality, his ideas and his modern approach.”
However, the club is believed to have spoken to “respected footballing figures” and came to the conclusion that Nagelsmann “struggles to connect with big names and egos in the dressing room.”
The report adds that Nagelsmann’s falling out with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer can be seen as an example of this issue.
Spurs Web Opinion
Chelsea’s loss is surely our gain here. We don’t really have any big names or big egos at Tottenham, and anyone who could cause an issue could and should leave the club in the summer allowing Nagelsmann to rebuild the squad.
