Ryan Mason has said that he is keen to put his own ‘stamp’ on the Tottenham team but admitted that it was not possible to change too many things in a couple of days.

Mason has been handed the reins on a temporary basis for the second time in his short coaching career on the back of helping steer the ship towards the end of the 2020-21 season when Jose Mourinho was sacked.

The former Spurs midfielder boasts of a decent record, having won four out of his six Premier League games in charge two years ago, and he will be hoping to start strongly when Manchester United visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday.

Mason employed a possession-based, attacking approach the last time he took charge, seemingly taking a leaf out of Mauricio Pochettino’s playbook.

Tottenham fans would certainly be hoping that the 31-year-old takes the handbrake off but he admitted that it is hard to change too much in a matter of days.

Mason said in his pre-match press conference (via Football.London): “The most important thing is getting energy and positivity back into the group and fan as well.

“We have to be realistic ahead of three training sessions before two games, hard to change a big deal but I would hope before the end of the season people would see my stamp on the group.”

There is no doubt that we will see Tottenham pressing a higher up the pitch on Thursday than what we have seen for the last few months.

However, the 31-year-old would need to be cautious about changing too much as he would be risking leaving us exposed at the back against a good side.
