The print edition of O Jogo (23/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are waiting to sort out their managerial situation before pushing ahead with a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte.

It was explained that since Ruben Amorim’s side now risk missing out on next season’s Champions League, they might be forced to sell their prized asset to balance their books.

The same information has now been confirmed by O Jogo, who state that a sale looks ‘practically inevitable’ at this point, given the state of Sporting’s finances.

The report asserts that Tottenham were ‘convinced’ by Ugarte when they saw him first-hand in their Champions League group stage games against the Portuguese side earlier this season.

It is explained that the North London club are yet to make a significant move for Ugarte and first want to appoint their next manager before pushing ahead with their pursuit.

OJogo add that while Sporting will push for Ugarte’s €60m (£53m) release clause to be matched, they might even be forced to consider an offer of around €40m (£35.3m) for the Uruguay international.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears that Spurs are tracking Ugarte and Pedro Goncalves since they are aware of Sporting’s need to sell their prized assets this summer.

However, Tottenham would likely not make any decisions regarding summer targets before they bring in a new head coach or a director of football through the door.
