The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Tottenham’s decision to not pursue Mauricio Pochettino was a unanimous one by the North London club’s board.
Multiple reports over the last few weeks have revealed that Tottenham have not even contacted Pochettino regarding a potential return, with Alan Brazil even claiming on talkSPORT the Argentine was extremely disappointed that the Lilywhites did not reach out to him.
The 51-year-old now appears on the verge of taking over at Chelsea (Goal), which would not sit well with some Spurs fans, many of whom continue to have a lot of affection for their former manager.
Ornstein has now explained on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel (starting at 22:04) that things soured during the end of Pochettino’s first spell at Tottenham.
The journalist pointed out that despite Spurs’ impressive Champions League run in 2019, the club’s league results were poor in the Argentine’s final 12 months in charge.
Ornstein revealed that the atmosphere at the training ground during Pochetitno’s final few months at the club was not good and added that a lot might have gone on behind the scenes that we are not aware of.
He also clarified that the decision not to go back to Pochettino was a unanimous one by the Spurs board, with all members of the hierarchy feeling that it might not be wise to bring the 51-year-old back.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is difficult to offer an opinion on the club’s decision not to pursue Pochettino, without being aware of all that went on behind the scenes.
However, I do find it strange that Levy and Co were seemingly open to the idea of bringing the Argentine back to the club back in the summer of 2021 when he was at PSG but have now changed their minds.
