Manchester United are reportedly working to get a deal done for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, but the club is wary of getting into lengthy negotiations with the North London club.

Kane is having a fantastic season from a personal perspective, having scored 27 goals in all competitions this term for Spurs (Transfermarkt).

However, problems on and off the pitch have seen Tottenham struggle all season. The club is at risk of missing out on European football for next season, and it has been yet another year without silverware after crashing out of the various cup competitions in disappointing fashion.

It is known that Kane is eager to add a trophy to his glittering career, but with no word on a new permanent manager at Spurs and little sign of a clear direction from above, the hopes of that happening at his boyhood club are fading fast.

The England captain has just over a year left on his current contract and there is talk he could look to move on this summer.

Kane has been linked with Manchester United repeatedly and it is thought Erik ten Hag’s side are hopeful of securing an £80 million move for the 29-year-old this year (Daily Star).

The latest report from the Telegraph suggests Manchester United are looking for a top striker to lead their line, and see Kane as the answer to that.

However, the club is reluctant to get involved in ‘protracted’ negotiations with Spurs on the matter.

It is believed acquiring a “pedigree centre forward” is the priority for Ten Hag this summer and the club is thought to be “continuing to explore” the possibility of a big-money move for Kane.

Manchester United do hold a certain degree of “concern about the dangers of being drawn into a protracted saga.”

The report claims Tottenham will want £100 million for their star man, despite the diminishing length of his contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am pretty sure Daniel Levy is not going to make this one easy for any club that wants to take Kane away from Spurs, and that stubbornness could end up sealing Kane’s fate.

If Manchester United are suitably deterred, there may not be any other options left but to stay with Spurs.
