Tottenham Hotspur scouts were spotted in Portugal this week during Porto’s 3-2 win over Famalicao in the semi-final of the Taca de Portugal (O Jogo 05/05/23 via Sport Witness).

Although the report claimed that Spurs scouts were in attendance, the player or players they were keeping an eye on are not named.

However, it appears that Tottenham were not alone in their scouting mission, with five other teams also attending to watch Porto vs Famalicao.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that Spurs have been linked with a Porto player of late in the form of goalkeeper Diogo Costa (TeamTALK and Jornal de Notícias 09/03/23 via Sport Witness)

Unfortunately, if this was the case, then the scouts would have left Portugal empty-handed because Costa was benched in favour of Claudio Ramos on the day.

Of course, Tottenham could have been there to scout another player entirely, so it remains to be seen if any other reports shed more light on the situation.

It appears that Tottenham have a firm eye on the Portuguese market at the moment. This is potentially because it is a lot easier to sign highly-rated players from outside the top five leagues as they are looking to make the step up. Just look at Pedro Porro as a recent example.
