Former Tottenham midfielder Stephane Dalmat has said that his compatriot Tanguy Ndombele lost his way after making the move to London in 2019.

When Tottenham shattered their transfer record to snap up Ndombele back in 2019, it was seen by many as a signing that could take the then Champions League runners up to the next level.

The Frenchman was one of the most sought-after players in world football at the time and appeared to be the final piece of the jigsaw for Mauricio Pochettino‘s Spurs side.

However, despite showing glimpses of his ability, Ndombele never quite managed to live up to his billing at Tottenham and the midfielder also flattered to deceive during his loan spell back at Lyon during the second half of last season.

The 26-year-old has got his career back on track to an extent this season, playing a valued role (primarily as an impact substitute) in Napoli’s historic Scudetto win.

When asked about Ndombele, Dalmat who spent the 2003-04 season on loan at Spurs from Inter Milan, has now told Radio Nerazzurra: “Yes, I had high hopes for Tanguy Ndombele when he was at Lyon.

“He could have been a profile, but at Tottenham he got a bit lost. I see Seko Fofana from Lens well, but he’s 28 and costs a lot. He’s doing an amazing season.”

Ndombele’s ability on the ball was never really in doubt but Tottenham should have done their due diligence on the midfielder’s attitude as well as his physical stamina before paying such a big fee for him back in 2019.

Unfortunately, despite Ndombele’s abundance of talent, I do not ever see him becoming a hit in the Premier League. I fully expect Spurs to cut their losses on the 26-year-old this summer.
