The Telegraph have revealed that Daniel Levy is ready to invest significantly in the data and analytics department at Tottenham in an effort to revolutionise the club’s recruitment.

The report explains that Spurs have previously been reluctant to invest in the data and analytics department, having questioned its value.

However, that could soon change as Daniel Levy‘s opinion on the matter has allegedly evolved after seeing the success that the likes of Brighton and Brentford have had over recent years in using data from the betting sector to influence recruitment decisions.

The report adds that the Tottenham chairman has now held discussions with various betting experts over developing a data model to help revolutionise the club’s recruitment.

The discussions are said to have centred around using a model to analyse and assess over-performing players in smaller leagues.

The Telegraph add Levy is also looking to hire a sporting director who is good at working with data and can use the aforementioned model to inform decisions, both regarding incomings and outgoings.

While all clubs these days use data analytics to inform all of their decisions, including recruitment, the main differences are regarding what kind of data is used and how much weightage certain metrics are given when it comes to recruitment decisions.

Paratici appeared to be someone who believed in qualitative analysis of transfer targets (performed by his network of scouts) rather than relying on quantitative metrics.

Perhaps, Scott Munn has convinced Levy that data from betting markets are an underused resource that can provide key insights.
