Italian publication Il Mattino have revealed that Tanguy Ndombele is now set to return to Tottenham for the time being, however suggests that the midfielder is not likely to be at the North London club next season.
The report states that the Frenchman has ‘already packed his bags’ after his loan spell in Naples came to an end and is now on his way back to his parent club.
No Napoli return for Ndombele
The publication alleges that Napoli never seriously considered activating the €30m (£25.7m) option to buy the Frenchman on a permanent since they thought the price was too high for a player who ‘never managed to carve out a leading role’ in the team, and was merely used as a backup.
The outlet also adds suggests that Ndombele does not have a future at Spurs next season, simply stating that the 26-year-old will ‘almost certainly’ be off somewhere else in the summer.
This update comes after Alasdair Gold floated the idea on YouTube Channel on Tuesday that perhaps Ndombele has a chance of a ‘renaissance’ next season, describing that former Lyon man as a ‘Postecoglou player’.
Ndombele is under contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2025 as part of his club record £63million move from Lyon in the summer of 2019 (Sky Sports).

While Ndombele’s courage in possession and ability to handle the ball in tight areas makes him a good fit for Postecoglou, he perhaps does not have the engine required to play in the new Spurs head coach’s system, which demands intense counter-pressing from the midfielders.
