Tottenham Hotspur are set to meet with Barcelona to discuss a permanent transfer for Clement Lenglet, according to Spanish news outlet Diario Sport.
Lenglet moved to North London last July on loan for the duration of the 2023/2024 campaign, becoming Spurs’ fifth signing of the summer.
The French international featured 35 times across all competitions for Tottenham last season (transfermarkt), scoring one goal which came in the 2-1 Champions League victory in Marseille which proved to be vital in helping his side finish top of Group D.
Lenglet could join Spurs in cut-price deal
The report claims that Barcelona have been demanding €12m (£10.2m) to sanction the sale of the 27-year-old, however, could now let him leave for half of that amount due to the fact they would save around £15.3m a year in salary to get Lenglet off their wage bill with the player under contract until the summer of 2026.
Tottenham are said to have been left pleased with Lenglet’s professionalism and his performances over the past eleven months with the club prepared to offer him a long-term contract so he does not take a big financial hit compared to his Barcelona pay packet.
Ryan Mason admitted during his interim spell as head coach that Lenglet is exactly the type of character Tottenham need:
He told Football.London ahead of the match against Brentford: “These conversations I’m sure will happen in the summer. Right now it’s not on my mind but I would say about Clem is that he is the type of character we want around the training ground, he is professional, he does it right.
“He’s vocal and the more people we can keep hold of and get in the more beneficial it is.”

Signing Clement Lenglet for around £6million would be a decent bit of business, however, having been linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol over the past year, he is not an elite central defender who can significantly improve us.
Lenglet is a solid squad player and with no European football to offer next season there certainly will not be plenty of minutes available for a bloated backline which includes the likes of Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez, spurs-web.com/tag/japhet-tanganga, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.
