Ange Postecoglou will not look to clash with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy as he looks to make his mark as the club’s new head coach, according to Central Coast Mariners boss Nick Montgomery.

Tottenham confirmed the appointment of Postecoglou as Antonio Conte’s successor earlier this week with the 57-year-old having signed a four-year contract.

Levy spoke on Friday about his reasoning for appointing Postecoglou in an effort to return to the club’s rich attacking traditions along with his ability to ability to develop young players.

He told the club’s official website: “We made a conscious decision that we wanted a coach who would understand what we really wanted as a Club, which was to play attacking football, to enable everyone to enjoy coming to a match and be entertained, and also someone who understood the importance of the Academy.”

Postecoglou backed to transform Spurs

Montgomery has backed the former Celtic manager to transform Tottenham and will simply get on with the job in hand, having already proven doubters wrong north of the border where he won five out of six domestic trophies available during two hugely successful seasons with the Scottish giants, including a treble this season.

Postecoglou has a track record of delivering a brand of attacking football with previous his rebuilding jobs leading to league titles in Australia, Japan and more recently Celtic.

Montgomery told the Daily Mail: “Ange is an inspiration and I’ve followed his career closely since playing against his teams in the A-League, where he always played exciting, attacking football.

“What I love about him most is how he proved all the doubters wrong at Celtic.

“I’ve got a lot of friends in Scotland and when Ange arrived, people wrote him off.

“But I remember saying ‘he’ll do really well, just wait and see’.

“He had a tricky start, but soon enough he turned everyone’s opinion round and you can see now what he’s gone on to achieve.

“All those Celtic fans who weren’t happy ended up loving him.

“I honestly believe he will go in at Tottenham and transform the club.

“He won’t whinge about things and have a go at the owner, which it seems that every manager who has gone in at Spurs has criticised Daniel Levy.

“You definitely won’t get that from Ange. He’s a hard worker and I’m confident he will turn Tottenham around in the next season or two.

“Ange is an inspiration for everybody, not just Australians.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Postecoglou was not the top choice for the majority of Tottenham’s supporters with some calling for the return of Mauricio Pochettino while others wanted the likes of Roberto de Zerbi or Julian Naglesmann to be the choice to lead.

He is used to having to prove people wrong and hopefully, he will be given financial backing by the club along with the power to be able to make wholesale changes to the squad which are long overdue.
