According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (09/06/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Lazio will need to bid ‘at least €30m’ (£25.6m) to ‘start negotiations’ with Tottenham for Bryan Gil.

Lazio’s interest in Gil first came to light last week when the same publication (Corriere on 30/05 via Sport Witness) claimed that Maurizio Sarri is planning to revamp his squad after securing Champions League qualification and has identified the Spain international as a target.

The publication asserted that the former Chelsea boss was of the belief that the 22-year-old has the talent to develop into a superstar at the Stadio Olimpico.

Spurs will not sell Bryan Gil at a discount

However, Corriere’s latest update suggests that Lazio now realise that it would be ‘complicated’ to sign Gil, with Tottenham not willing to open talks unless the Italian club put €30m (£25.6m) on the table.

It is explained that the Serie A side were initially hoping to sign the winger, who won the Europa League with Sevilla, at a ‘discount’ but they now know that would not be possible.

This is because Gil is contracted to Spurs until 2026, which means that the North London club are under no pressure to consider offers for him this summer.

Whether or not Gil is good enough to be a regular for Tottenham, there is no doubt about the winger’s potential, which he showcased again during his loan spell in Seville over the past few months. 

So, there will be no shortage of suitors for the 22-year-old this summer and there is no need for Spurs to consider selling him on the cheap.

I do not think the club will make a final decision on the Spaniard until Postecoglou takes a closer look at him during pre-season.
