The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is considering turning down a big-money offer to play in Saudi Arabia next season.
It now appears clear that Lloris’ eleven-year stint at Tottenham is likely to come to an end this summer, with the Spurs captain himself admitting to Nice-Matin earlier this month that he wants a new challenge.
Lloris said: “We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me. It’s the end of an era.
“I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen.”
It was reported by The Times a month ago that the 36-year-old had been offered a deal to play in Saudi Arabia next season that would see the Tottenham man triple his current salary which stands at around £100,000-a-week.
Speaking to Le Parisien (11/05/23 via Sport Witness) last month, the Frenchman’s agent admitted that his client has several offers on the table but refused to comment on the Saudi offer, simply remarking when asked about it that there was ‘nothing concrete yet’.

Lloris could turn down Saudi move
However, if The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed, Lloris has indeed been approached by the Saudis, with the goalkeeper said to have held negotiations over a move to the Middle East.
However, it is suggested that the Spurs star is one of a few high-profile players, along with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Eden Hazard, who are considering turning down the riches offered to play in the Asian country.

The kind of money that is being thrown around would be difficult for any player to refuse, particularly ones at the end of their career like Lloris, who are looking for their final big contract.
However, Hugo is clearly a family man, which is why he would likely prefer to return to France. I would not be surprised if the 36-year-old ended up moving back to Nice this summer.
