CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Manchester United are also considering a move for Tottenham target James Maddison this summer.
The speculation linking Maddison with the move to Tottenham has intensified since Ange Postecoglou’s appointment, with The Telegraph reporting last week that the Australian had identified the midfielder as his ‘priority target’.
It was even asserted by The Daily Star over the weekend that the Lilywhites had launched an opening offer of £40m for the England international.
Reports over recent days have continued to maintain that Tottenham’s main competitors for Maddison’s signature are Newcastle United, with the Magpies also thought to be keen on landing the 26-year-old (Sky Sports).
Jacobs has now suggested that Man Utd could also enter the race for the Leicester star’s signature if Chelsea do not lower their valuation of Mason Mount.
Man United have one eye on James Maddison
However, the journalist remarked that Spurs are still the ‘ones to watch’ in the race for Maddison’s signature.
He said on The United Stand channel: “This is where James Maddison comes in.
“He is loosely on Man United’s radar, even though, as I revealed for six months, Newcastle are pushing and the player is quite keen on that move, and Spurs are one to watch.
“Man United will look at the Maddison fee, which is around £40m, and they will say, how can you be looking at double the Maddison fee for Mason Mount when he has so little time on his contract, you have a bit of leverage there, or if Mount doesn’t come off, another option.”

Leicester may not be in a hurry to sell Maddison as they would want a bidding war to ensue so that they can get as high a fee as possible.
It would be in Tottenham’s interest to try and wrap up a deal for the England international quickly as there is always the risk of other clubs entering the race.
