Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he is looking forward to travelling with the Tottenham squad to Asia and Australia during pre-season, insisting that he expects a special atmosphere in all three matches.

Tottenham take on West Ham United at Optus Stadium, Perth on July 18 before going up against Leicester City at the Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok on 23 July and finally rounding off their tour with a clash against AS Roma at the Singapore National Stadium on 26 July.

Having worked both in the A-League and the J-League and competed frequently in the AFC Champions League, Postecoglou knows first-hand what is in store for him and his players when they make their pre-season trip.

When asked about the matches in Thailand and Singapore, the Tottenham head coach told beIN SPORTS Australia: “Brilliant, having had a lot of my football journey in Asia, I can tell you they are mad about football, about the Premier League and, of course, our football club.

“I guarantee you the atmosphere in the stadium will be something special.

“Really looking forward to seeing the people out there. I think it is an important part of who we are as a football club.

“These are the times we can give back to those who do not have the fortune to see us live too often. So, I think from that perspective, it’s really important and it will be something we all look forward to.”

Postecoglou will also have a chance to go back to his home country and it was reported by The Daily Mail a couple of days ago that ticket sales in Perth for the London derby have seen a noticeable spike since the Australian’s appointment at Spurs.

When asked about playing at the Optus Stadium, the 57-year-old said (as relayed by Football.London): “The trips I’ve done back home are always exciting for me and I think for the whole group, the football club and our players we’ll enjoy it.

“Very good opposition as well, it’s a great stadium, I’ve visited the stadium and it’s fantastic. I’m really looking forward to it.”

When asked about the coincidence of going back Down Under, Postecoglou responded: “I don’t think it was by design but it’s worked out pretty well that my first official game will be back home and I’m sure I’ll have plenty of family and friends there.

“It’s a great way to start this new era for this football club.

“For everyone, ultimately from a football perspective, it’s a great place for us to begin our programme. More importantly, it will give everyone a good indication of the kind of football team we want to be.”

Listening to Postecoglou refer to us as ‘we’ and talking about ‘our football club’ will be music to the years of Spurs fans after seeing 18 months of Conte referring to Tottenham simply as ‘the club’. 

There is no doubt that the Spurs faithful will fall in love with Ange’s personality but whether or not they really take to him the way they did with Pochettino, would ultimately depend on the results.
