CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Lorient have expressed an interest in signing Harry Winks this summer.
Reports over the past couple of weeks have indicated that Ange Postecoglou is expected to oversee a mass clear-out this summer, given the bloated nature of Tottenham’s squad (Telegraph).
One would expect that Winks, who spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Sampdoria, is one of the players on the chopping block.
The Tottenham academy graduate did impress at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium during the second half of the season once he put his injury owes behind him.
It was reported by SampNews24 last week that Leeds United are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old as they aim to bounce straight back up to the Premier League following their relegation this season.
However, the publication added that Ange Postecoglou wants to assess the England international in pre-season before making a final decision over his future.
Lorient are looking at Tottenham’s Harry Winks
Jacobs is of the opinion that Winks will not be at Tottenham when the next campaign gets underway.
When asked about the midfielder, the journalist said on the Last Word On Spurs Podcast: “There is some interest from Lorient as well [in Winks], which is the club that Bournemouth owner Bill Foley has a thirty-three per cent stake in.
“I do think Winks will find a solution, but it won’t be Sampdoria and I don’t think it will be Spurs either.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Winks has just one year left to run on his contract at Tottenham.
So, unless the club perform a complete U-turn and offer the midfielder a new contract (which appears quite unlikely), the writing seems on the wall for him this summer.
I expect a few Premier League clubs to express an interest in the 27-year-old over the coming weeks and months.
