Clarence Seedorf has said that Harry Kane can be successful at any club across Europe but insisted that the striker deserves respect if he decides to remain at Tottenham for the rest of his career.

With Kane now having just one year left on his contract with Spurs, there has understandably been plenty of speculation about the striker’s future over the last couple of months.

The likes of Manchester United (Daily Star), Real Madrid (Marca), Paris Saint-Germain (Foot Mercato), and Bayern Munich (The Athletic) have all been credited with an interest in the England captain.

Seedorf calls for respect if Kane stays at Tottenham

Seedorf has now remarked that the 29-year-old is good enough to adapt to any league but suggested that the challenge would be adapting to a new culture off the pitch.

When asked if Kane should leave Tottenham to win trophies, the AC Milan legend told The Metro: “That is a choice Kane needs to make. Tottenham have underperformed but the potential is there. I think they have a long way to go to be successful so I could see him at Real Madrid – why not?

“The way Kane plays he is a box player and he can play anywhere. The Spanish league would fit him. The question is, is he able to adapt as a person in these countries?

“That’s the question because he can play anywhere but can you adapt to the culture? Are you ready to make these adaptations? Are you determined enough to make it happen?”

Reports coming out of Tottenham over the last couple of weeks seem to suggest that Kane might stay put, at least for the time being, with 90 min even stating recently that the North London club have informed the striker’s entourage that he will not be sold this summer.

When asked what Kane would get from spending the rest of his career at Spurs, Seedorf responded: “We’ve seen many of them – Raul at Real Madrid, AC Milan’s Paolo Maldini, Steven Gerrard at Liverpool. He would not be the first. The question is what you want from your career.

“Francesco Totti was an amazing player who spent his whole career with Roma. If you stay, stay, but be proud and be happy, make a difference for the team and be the best captain your club has ever had.

“When you end your career, be happy with what you have achieved. If he goes to Real or to Germany, he could fit into many clubs but what does he want? Whatever he chooses, that needs to be respected and you wish for him to win something.”

When asked what loyalty gets players in modern football, the Dutchman said: “I would give my all until the last day for the club I’m representing.

“Loyalty doesn’t mean you have to stay forever – that’s not how it works. Very few are fortunate like Maldini, Gerrard and Raul. We will never know how they could have done in other clubs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A legend like Seedorf, who has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world and has won the biggest prizes in the game, seems to be suggesting that it is honourable to stay loyal to your boyhood club.

Meanwhile, some pundits, who themselves achieved nothing of note in the game, are of the opinion that Kane lacks ambition if he stays at Spurs.

It is a shame that more fans and pundits cannot appreciate loyalty and root for Kane to achieve the fairytale of winning something with his boyhood club.

Sadly, that shows where the game is headed in the social media era, with players being reduced solely to the number of trophies they have won, almost like football is an individual spot like boxing or tennis.
