The Athletic journalist Charlie Eccleshare gets the sense that Sergio Reguilon is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and would be allowed to leave this summer.
Reguilon has endured a nightmarish last 18 months, with a series of injuries preventing him from building any sort of momentum.
Even when he was fit, the Spaniard struggled to get game time during his loan spell at Atletico Madrid, having played just 233 minutes across all competitions in 2022-23.
The Telegraph reported earlier his month that the 26-year-old is expected to be one of the players sacrificed this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks set to oversee a big summer clear-out.
Alasdair Gold also suggested in his column for Football.London earlier his week that Destiny Udogie might battle it out with Ben Davies for the left-back spot under Postecoglou, with Reguilon seemingly not having any future at the club.
Reguilon is more or less free to leave Tottenham
This has now been backed up by Eccleshare, who has suggested that the former Real Madrid man and Ivan Perisic are both free to look for new clubs.
The journalist said on Last Word on Spurs: “Perisic I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on and Reguilon is free to go more or less.
“Look the line from Spurs and from Postecoglou is that everyone will arrive with a clean slate and they will look at them, but my sense is that Reguilon and Perisic are more likely to move on than the others.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With Reguilon having two years left on his contract, Tottenham would ideally want to offload him this summer but I do not think clubs will risk paying a transfer fee for the left-back, given his recent injury woes.
So, Spurs might have no choice but to loan out the 26-year-old again next season.
