Destiny Udogie’s agent, Ferdinando Guarino, believes that his client will have no problem playing in a back four under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs paid £20m to snap up Destiny Udogie from Udinese last summer on the back of his breakthrough season in Serie A and loaned the youngster back to the Italian club.

The 20-year-old was signed for the left wing-back role under Antonio Conte, having thrived as a wing-back at the Dacia Arena since breaking into the Serie A club’s first team two years ago.

However, the youngster, who scored three goals and provided four assists in 33 league appearances this season (Transfermarkt), will now have to adapt to the demands of a back four, with Postecoglou favouring a 4-3-3 formation.

The Australian also tends to employ inverted full-backs who occupy central positions in possession rather than overlapping, similar to the set-up deployed by Manchester City and Liverpool.

Football London revealed two weeks ago that Postecoglou will closely analyse the full-backs at Spurs, including Udogie, during pre-season to determine if they fit his system.

Agent tips Udogie to thrive in a back four at Spurs

Guarino has no doubts that the Italy Under-21 international has the attributes to play as a left-back under the 57-year-old.

Udogie’s representative told TuttoMercatoWeb: “I had a discussion with Tottenham: they believe in him a lot, they will watch him again tonight.

“A new coach has arrived, playing four is not a problem for the boy. 

“There is no shortage of admirers because he is a complete player, he has shown over time that he can have a dominant impact on matches. But… one step at a time.

“Today is the European Championship. Then there will be the championship and he is very excited to be living this new adventure with Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Udogie appears to be quite a well-rounded talent and I do not think he would have any issues adapting to the inverted left-back role, although the 20-year-old might have to improve his tidiness in possession.

My big concern is regarding Pedro Porro as I do not think the inverted full-back role would make use of his biggest strength, which is to overlap and deliver crosses into the box.
