RMC Sport have revealed that RB Leipzig have now opened talks to sign Lyon centre-back Castello Lukeba, who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham Hotspur over recent weeks.
Earlier this week, Alasdair Gold revealed via Football.London that Ange Postecoglou is expected to oversee wholesale changes at centre-back this summer, with Tottenham said to be keen on signing two central defenders to play on either side this summer.
One man who arguably fits the mould of a Postecoglou player is Lukeba, who enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at the Groupama Stadium in 2022-23.
Tottenham’s interest in the 20-year-old first came to light last month when The Daily Mail reported that the Lilywhites had sent scouts to France to run the rule over the centre-back.
But! Football Club subsequently claimed a couple of weeks ago that Lukeba was stalling on signing a new deal at Lyon as he was aware of the interest from the likes of Spurs.
RB Leipzig make first move for Spurs-linked Lukeba
However, if RMC Sport’s latest update is to be believed, it is Leipzig who have made the first move for the centre-back.
The publication states that the Bundesliga club have now launched an opening offer of €20m (£17m) for Lukeba while Lyon are demanding a fee of around €35m (£30m) for the youngster.
The report makes no mention of Spurs but states that two unnamed English clubs have also expressed interest in the France Under-21 international.

Lukeba ticks several boxes for Spurs as he is strong, quick, good on the ball and left-footed.
However, the transfer would involve an element of risk since the 20-year-old has had just one good season in the Ligue 1.
A larger sample is arguably needed for clubs to be confident of his potential.
