The Athletic have revealed Eric Dier is less likely to be sold this summer despite having just one year left on his contract at Tottenham.
It was revealed by Alasdair Gold on Football.London at the start of this week that Spurs are expected to make wholesale changes at centre-back this summer ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.
The journalist revealed that two new centre-backs are expected to arrive through the door while several will leave but he suggested that it is unlikely that all four of Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon will be sold in one transfer window.
It had previously been reported by 90 min a couple of weeks ago that Spurs are ready to listen to offers for Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the outlet adding that both senior stars will be allowed to leave.
Dier is currently more likely to leave Spurs next year
However, The Athletic have now claimed that Dier is more likely to leave next summer after his contract runs out rather than during this transfer window.
The outlet explains that the North London club have held talks over a new contract with the 29-year-old but those discussions are not at an advanced stage.
Spurs Web Opinion
This news will probably not go down well with some Spurs fans, who are seemingly desperate for Dier to be sold.
I personally would not mind seeing the 29-year-old stay on as a squad player for one more season.
Postecoglou might see value in keeping him around due to his leadership skills.
