Jamie O’Hara has suggested that he would like Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier to attract bids from Saudi Arabian clubs this summer.
Multiple sources, including Alasdair Gold (Football.London), have reported over recent weeks that Spurs are expected to make wholesale changes at centre-back this summer.
The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites are expected to sign two central defenders – one for each side.
He said that while Dier and Sanchez could be on the chopping block alongside Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon, only three of the four are likely to be let go during this transfer window.
This was seemingly backed up by The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare, who claimed last week that Dier is more likely to leave when his contract runs out next summer rather than right now.
However, the writing seems to be on the wall for Sanchez, with multiple outlets suggesting that the centre-back wants to call time on his six-year spell at the club (Pipe Sierra).
O’Hara wants Saudi Arabia moves for two Spurs men
O’Hara believes that Tottenham’s best chance of getting rid of the experienced defensive pair is if there is interest from Saudi Arabia.
The former Spurs midfielder told talkSPORT’s The Sports Bar show (27/6/23): “And he (Postecoglou) needs to get rid of the deadwood (and we can do well).
“The problem we have is we haven’t got people from Saudi Arabia asking for Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that plenty of Spanish, Italian and French clubs would love to sign some of the players who have been deemed ‘deadwood’ at Spurs.
However, most clubs from those countries have still not recovered from the economic impact of Covid and thus simply do not have the financial means to pay big transfer fees or wages.
That means that unless there is interest from Saudi Arabia, Tottenham would have to look to sell a lot of players to other Premier League sides, which will be difficult.
