Rumoured Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo claims he is happy at Galatasaray but he also opened the door to a potential summer transfer.
Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham during the January transfer window (90 min) but the 23-year-old ended up completing a move to Galatasaray for a fee of £19.5m, with his contract at the Turkish club thought to have a release clause of £30.2m (Fabrizio Romano).
We covered a report from TuttoJuve (10/06/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) earlier this month, which claimed that Spurs are set to reignite their interest in the 23-year-old this summer.
However, the outlet explained that Tottenham were not Zaniolo’s only admirers, with Juventus and AC Milan keen on snapping up the player, while Aston Villa were also said to be eyeing a move for him.
Turkish journalist Nevzat Dindar asserted last week (Milliyet as translated by Sport Witness) that Spurs were at the front of the queue to sign the Italy international, who was alleged to be valued at €30m-€35m (£25.6m-£29.9m) by Galatasaray.
Nicolo Zaniolo seems open to a summer transfer
Zaniolo has now indicated that while he is happy in Turkey, he will study any proposals that come his way this summer.
The attacker told Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia): “I want to keep in shape and be in good form for the Champions League preliminary round with Galatasaray in July.
“I am happy in Istanbul and will play in the Champions League. However, if an offer comes in by the end of August that is a good opportunity for Galatasaray and for me, then we will take it into consideration.”
When asked if he would be open to a switch to Juventus, Zaniolo responded: “I am open to anything, including staying at Galatasaray. Obviously, Juve are Juve, even without the Champions League or other international tournaments.
“I have supported Juve since I was a kid, my idol was Pogba. Playing at Juve would make me very happy. We are talking about a big club.
“I repeat, if the opportunity makes all three happy – Galatasaray, me and Juve – then it is very welcome. Otherwise, I am happy in Turkey. I am not going to create expectations for myself, whatever happens will be fine.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would be on the lookout for a wide forward this summer following the departures of Moura and Danjuma.
Zaniolo would fit the bill as not only can he compete with Kulusevski for the wide-right spot but he can also cover for James Maddison in the number eight role.
However, it appears likely that Tottenham’s interest in the 23-year-old would have ended when Paratici and Conte departed the club.
