Alasdair Gold has revealed via Football.London that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to enter the market for a new central midfielder this summer should Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg depart the club.
Gold explains that Tottenham’s primary objective entering this transfer window was to sign a goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a central attacking midfielder and a young winger, which are considered the priority areas to address.
The club have already secured the signings of Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison while they are also seemingly on the verge of securing a centre-back in Micky Van de Ven (The Athletic) and a wide player in Manor Solomon (Fabrizio Romano).
Spurs would replace Hojbjerg if he left this summer
Gold explains that Spurs are also prepared to replace any of their first-team players who unexpectedly leave.
As an example, the journalist points to Hojbjerg as someone who could be sold if Tottenham receive a tempting offer since the midfielder has just two years left on his contract.
Gold adds that Ange Postecoglou’s men are prepared to sign a number six to slot into the Dane’s place should he depart N17.
This update comes on the back of multiple outlets claiming over recent weeks that Tottenham are prepared to cash in on Hojbjerg as he is not seen as a good stylistic fit for Postecoglou (Daily Mail).
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that Tottenham would need to sign a midfielder if Hojbjerg leaves, particularly with Bentancur not expected to be fit for the start of the season.
I personally would not mind the Dane staying as a squad player but given his contract situation, now seems like the best time to cash in on him.
