Ange Postecoglou has brushed aside suggestions that some Spurs fans on social media were against his appointment, insisting that he has only felt overwhelming support since being officially confirmed as Tottenham’s head coach.

It is fair to say that there was some scepticism among parts of the fan base when Postecoglou first emerged as the favourite for the role once Tottenham’s pursuit of Arne Slot collapsed.

In fact, the #NoToAnge was even trending at the time (Daily Mail), with many having doubts about the Australian’s credentials for the role, given that he had not managed at the highest level of the game.

However, it is clear that a large portion of the fan base is excited about the kind of football that Postecoglou will bring, with many seemingly taking to him because of his no-nonsense style of communication.

Postecoglou has felt support from Tottenham fans

The new Tottenham head coach has insisted that he does not take social media trends as being indicative of what the fans think about his appointment.

When asked about some fans expressing their discontent online when he took the job, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “I’ve never taken social media as a barometer of me as a person.

“I’d hate to think anyone does. There’s more to life than who we are. Unless you’ve actually polled every Spurs fan in the world and you’ve come out with a defining majority that don’t want me here, I’d suggest that what comes out of social media comes out of social media.

“Supporters with every appointment have the right to reserve their judgement. Absolutely, why not? This is their football club and anyone who comes through their football club they have a right to determine whether they think it’s the right person or not.

“For the most part, I think the overwhelming majority of Tottenham supporters want me to be successful because if I’m successful then their club is successful.

“I think they will wait and see and wait to reserve judgement on me when that comes.

“It doesn’t affect me. It’s not like I feel I’m battling against any tide or anything. To be honest, I’ve felt overwhelming support since I’ve been here.

“The people I’ve come across outside of here have all been very supportive in terms of Tottenham fans. So rather than scroll through social media to find what is said about me I’ll go with the feeling I have at the moment.”

This was a loaded question, aimed at getting a controversial response but Postecoglou handled it brilliantly.

It is quite clear that the vast majority of the Spurs fans find the Australian to be a refreshing change to the likes of Conte and Mourinho, and are excited about the kind of football that he can get the team playing.
