Harry Kane will return to Hotspur Way tomorrow and will tell new head coach Ange Postecoglou that he still remains open minded over his future at Tottenham, according to The Telegraph.
The 29-year-old has yet to report back for pre-season training due to his recent involvement with England and will return to the club’s training base where he will sit down with Postecoglou.
Kane is reported to be looking forward to his first sit-down with the Australian, which will give Postecoglou the opportunity to convince Kane that he is the man who can swiftly return the club to European football while also competing for silverware.
Kane has an open mind over his Tottenham future
Tottenham have offered Kane a new £400,000-a-week contract to remain at the club, but has not shown any appetite as of yet to put pen to paper to commit his future to the North Londoners.
The summer transfer window has been dominated by Bayern Munich’s desire to sign the England international as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski who joined Barcelona last summer, which left the Bundesliga giants without a focal point to their attack.
Bayern tabled an improved offer of £68.5million plus add-ons for the forward on Sunday, who is in the last year of his contract at the Premier League side, which is expected to be rebuffed by chairman Daniel Levy (Evening Standard).
They had already failed with an opening which was thought to be worth €70m (£60m) plus add-ons.
Postecoglou was asked about Kane’s situation at the club yesterday during his first appearance at a press conference since taking over from Antonio Conte, he told Football.London: “I haven’t had any assurances and I wouldn’t expect any assurances, because when you’re dealing with these kind of things you’re never dealing with definites or certainties in anything in life.
“That’s just my nature. I just kind of go along and try to concentrate on the things I know right now. What I know right now is that Harry is part of this squad and he’s looking forward to coming back to training and being amongst these players and starting to work together.
“If I spend too much time worrying about the impact it might have either way, I’m going to miss trying to build a team because ultimately that’s what’s going to make us successful, if we build a team that plays football a certain way. That’s going to be it. I’m not going to miss this initial opportunity to lay down what I think is going to be important in the long-term. What’s going to be important in the long-term goes beyond individuals. It’s more about overriding philosophy about who we want to be as a team and the key people within that.”
Following Kane’s return to training, they are set to fly to Australia, Thailand and Singapore for a series of overseas friendlies.
Tottenham earlier today confirmed their fifth signing of the transfer window, following the arrival of winger Manor Solomon.
