Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have studied potential replacements for Harry Kane this summer just in case Bayern Munich make an offer that is too good to turn down.
It does not appear as if Bayern are prepared to give up on their pursuit of Kane, with Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealing on Sunday that the Bundesliga giants had launched a second offer of €80m (£68.4m) plus add-ons for the Spurs man after their opening bid was turned down.
However, this offer is also expected to be rejected by the North London club, with Fabrizio Romano telling CaughtOffside this morning that Spurs have continued to maintain that they do not want to let their star man leave.
The Italian added that the Bundesliga giants have to make a much bigger offer to tempt Daniel Levy into selling the 29-year-old.
Spurs have planned for Harry Kane’s departure
Gold has now stated in his latest column that Tottenham have looked at potential replacements for Kane over the years and have done so again this summer.
However, he explained that the Lilywhites would only accept an offer that outweighs the impact that the striker can have on the pitch this season.
Gold also asserted that Levy is hesitant to accept any bid for Kane because he is aware that replacing the striker with just one player would prove impossible.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Bayern make an offer of £90m-£100m for Kane (which they are quite far away from doing), it would be irresponsible for Tottenham to not seriously consider it, given that the striker is quite unlikely to sign a new deal if he stays.
So, it is not surprising that Spurs would have identified potential replacements for the 29-year-old just in case such an offer arrives from Bayern or elsewhere soon.
