Ange Postecoglou has claimed that he is not paying any attention to the speculation about Harry Kane’s future, remarking that he wants to find out the truth from the horse’s mouth when he sits down for a chat with the striker this week.

Reports over the last 24 hours have indicated that Bayern Munich‘s second offer of €80m (£68.4m) plus add-ons for Kane is also expected to be turned down by Tottenham despite the 29-year-old wanting to make the switch to the Allianz Arena (Fabrizio Romano – CaughtOffside).

In fact, it was even reported by The Daily Mail on Monday that Thomas Tuchel had not only convinced the Tottenham man that he could win the Champions League with Bayern but the German coach had also persuaded him that he and his family can have a smooth transition to life in Munich.

It was suggested by SportBild last week that Daniel Levy is far from pleased that Tuchel had spoken to Kane behind his back, which is why the Spurs chairman is expected to make the negotiations really difficult for the Bundesliga side.

However, Postecoglou has now insisted that he is not wasting his mental energy thinking about the speculation and that he is looking forward to the centre-forward joining the squad.

The Australian may have been given a boost ahead of his talks with Kane when The Telegraph reported earlier this evening that Kane will tell the 57-year-old that he is open minded over his future.

Postecoglou comments on Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham

When asked if he is annoyed by reports of Bayern’s and Tuchel’s talks with his star striker, the Australian told Football.London: “If I say it’s annoying me, it would be misleading. It doesn’t register. I always believe that you’re much better trying to understand what a situation is through your own eyes. For me, in my head right now Harry’s on holiday, he’s on a sunbed and playing with his family and having a great time – that’s the picture I’ve got.

“Now, if other things are going on I’m not going to think about it and the reason I don’t is because he’ll be here in two days’ time and everything I need to know will be sitting right in front of me. So in the meantime, I’m not going to lose time or sleep on conjecture that may or may not be out there because then you’re jumping at shadows – how much of it is true, how much of it is not true?

“Nothing’s landed on my desk at this moment from anybody at the club to say there’s a decision to be made there. Not even close to that, so because of that I’m looking forward to having Harry here on Wednesday and getting ready for the tour.”

When asked about the Kane saga potentially dominating the headlines for the rest of the summer, Postecoglou responded: “Irrespective of my desires, I’m sure you guys will make sure it does. Again, it’s something I have no control over. What I will deal with is, as I have in the past, what I see day to day. Is is affecting the group? Is it affecting Harry? That’s the only time it will maybe register.

“It wont affect me, I’ll come here every week and try to answer your questions as best as I can, but that will be the barometer and right now I don’t have that barometer because he’s not even here yet, so that will tell me if that’s becoming an issue or not.

“I doubt somebody like Harry would let it affect him in any sort of way because this football club means too much to him and he wouldn’t let it infiltrate the dressing room. I guess it’s how we react as a football club that’s going to be important and that will get tested mate, for sure.”

If it is true that Postecoglou has not been told that he would have a decision to make regarding Kane, that suggests that the club are pretty determined to hold on to the striker. While it would be a risk to allow the 29-year-old to run into the final year of his contract, that now looks to be a likely outcome.
