Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon has suffered yet another injury blow having been left to undergo hamstring surgery.
Sessegnon sustained the latest issue during pre-season training with Ange Postecoglou’s side, who are set to jet off to Australia on Friday to begin their preparations for the campaign ahead.
The left wing-back sat out the end of last season due to a hamstring issue that sidelined him from February, missing 19 game in the process in the latest of a frustrating record of hamstring problems (transfermarkt).
The club confirmed in a statement on their website: “Ryan Sessegnon has undergone surgery to his left hamstring following an injury sustained in pre-season training.
Ryan Sessegnon undergoes hamstring operation
“Having previously suffered with his hamstring it is anticipated that the surgery following this injury will provide a permanent solution to the problem.
“Ryan will not be available for our upcoming pre-season tour but will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training.”
Ange Postecoglou confirmed at yesterday’s press conference that goalkeeper Fraser Forster will not make the trip to Australia due to a back injury and will remain in England along with Rodrigo Bentancur, who continues his rehabilitation from his knee operation (Football.London).
Sessegnon had worked hard during the summer of last year in a bid to put his injury woes behind him when he worked with a fitness expert in Portugal to add more muscle to his body to limit his hamstring weakness.
He told talkSPORT in July of last year: “I used the off-season as an opportunity to get muscle into my legs – and my top as well. If you can see the difference then obviously it’s worked!
“I did it to make myself stronger and play more games, to have the capability to go up and down for the full 90 minutes.
“That’s one of my aims, to play most games available this season.
“It will help for sure, 100 per cent, because last season I was getting these injuries because places around my hamstring weren’t very strong.
“I’ve managed to work in the off-season doing all this stuff on my hips and my glutes to make it stronger in every area.”

This will also come as a frustration to Tottenham with Sessegnon unlikely to be in a position to return to fitness until after the summer transfer window closes which all but ends any hopes of offloading the former Fulham player.
