Journalist Paul Brown has predicted that Bayern Munich are far from done with their efforts to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
On Monday, we relayed Fabrizio Romano’s update on Bayern’s latest offer of €80m (£68m) plus add-ons for Kane, with the journalist suggesting that the bid is likely to be turned down by the North Londoners (CaughtOffside).
Romano claimed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy remains hopeful of holding on to the striker and that Bayern would have to submit a much higher offer for the Spurs chairman to consider a sale.
The Daily Mail subsequently reported on the same day that it would take an offer of around £120m to convince Tottenham to sell their talisman.
New Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou admitted in his press conference at the start of the week that he wants to build a team around the club’s record scorer.
He told Football.London: “I think it’s fair to say that’s a fit for who I am as a manager and the kind of teams I’ve produced in the past because I’ve had a lot of success in my career but it’s also been done on the back of playing a certain way,” he said.
“I dare to say that was probably part of, one of the biggest factors in the club appointing me was that they saw that, that’s what I’m going to try and deliver.
“That seems to be the right fit for this club in terms of the fans’ expectations. We call it entertainment but also win games of football, score goals, be exciting. They don’t want to see their team sit back. There are different ways of winning games but the intent for us will be to try and make sure this football club is a compelling watch for everybody.”
Bayern Munich tipped to continue to push for Harry Kane
The report added that Bayern’s latest offer was already near the upper end of how much they are willing to offer, with the Bundesliga giants unlikely to even go up until £100m for the England captain.
However, Brown believes that Thomas Tuchel’s men will continue bidding for the centre forward since they do not think Spurs are in a strong position due to his contractual situation.
When asked about Bayern’s pursuit of Kane, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Yeah, I don’t think this is going away this summer. I think Bayern will push really hard. The interesting thing is that the first time the news leaked out of Germany that Bayern had bid for Kane, people at Spurs were denying that that had ever happened.
“This time, they’re offering no comments and going no further. So, make of that what you will. I think Bayern are trying hard to sign Kane this summer and they will continue right up until the window closes. They think that Daniel Levy and Spurs are not in a strong position because Kane’s contract is running out.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think the situation would become a lot clearer once Kane has a chat with Postecoglou about his future this week. As things stand, it does not seem as if Bayern are prepared to offer the kind of fee that would give Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy something to think about.
