Kicker reporter Frank Linkesch has said that the longer Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Harry Kane drags on, the more the Bundesliga club will be tempted to snap him up next summer on a free transfer.
It does not appear as if Bayern are prepared to give up their pursuit of Kane anytime soon, with Fabrizio Romano revealing on the Here We Go podcast on Thursday that the Bundesliga club made an ‘important contact’ with the Spurs hierarchy regarding the centre-forward.
Meanwhile, Dan Kilpatrick reported on The Evening Standard on Friday morning that the England captain is not expected to agitate for a move even if Tottenham continue turning down Bayern’s offers.
The journalist asserted that Kane is keeping all his options open, including leaving this summer, signing a new contract at Spurs and leaving on a free next summer.
Bayern Munich have one eye on free Kane transfer
Linkesch has now explained that the feeling in Munich is that the 29-year-old wants to make the move to the Allianz Arena and is not considering his extending his current deal at North London.
He told Kicker: “A manager from FC Bayern already said two weeks ago that they are prepared for the fact that there will be a lot of poker and a lot of drama involved.
“I would be very careful with everything that is reported from all corners of the continent on offers and which clubs are interested. It will be up to Harry Kane but the feeling in Munich is that he wants to move to switch to Bayern and that he will not extend his contract.
“That does not mean a change is definitely going to happen, it still concerns a lot of money and then there is the well-known stubborn negotiating of Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s CEO.
“The question will be how much longer the transfer window remains open and for what amount Bayern are willing to pay. I think we’re talking about €100m in the end if it goes through. It won’t be because of Bayern or Harry Kane that it fails but because of a veto from Tottenham.
“I can’t tell you how long it will take but the information from Bayern is that they wanted to take him to Asia for marketing reasons but two weeks ago that was thought of as ambitious.
“The longer it goes on the more they will be thinking about getting a free transfer in a year and that’s one of the cards they’re playing, hoping that Tottenham will say okay in the end, preferring a fee now and Kane not moving to a Premier League competitor.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect there is a much bigger chance of this deal going through than most Spurs fans realise. It is not inconceivable that Bayern offer €100m for Kane over the coming weeks, and that would give Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy plenty to think about.
