Harry Kane has admitted that he and Son Heung-min took time to understand each other’s style of football, which is why their partnership at Tottenham Hotspur did not flourish straightaway.

Kane and Son now hold the record for having combined the most goals in Premier League history, overtaking the previous record held by former Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard back in April of last year (Premierleague.com).

Their striker pairing is now widely recognised as one of the most deadly in world football and Spurs fans will be hoping that the duo combine for many more goals over the next couple of years.

Kane has now revealed that the reason it clicks between him and his strike partner is that they understand each other’s games very well and are also quite close off the pitch.

Harry Kane and Son took time to build partnership

When asked about his record-breaking partnership with the South Korean, the 29-year-old told the YouTube channel First We Feast: “The first of three, four years, we didn’t have that amazing record that we have now. It took us time to build that.

“I think getting to know how each other plays on the pitch but also off the pitch as well we started to become closer in friendship, started to know each other better.

“I just think it comes with understanding each other’s games. He’s a fantastic player, a lot of skill and now whenever I am on the ball he knows certain runs to make without thinking, looking, or playing it straight away.

“Both of us have just improved along that process and become a bit more prolific. He is a great player but a really great guy as well.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Usually with strike partnerships involving two world-class players, there is a bit of ego involved, with the two players often trying to outdo one another.

That clearly does not exist between Kane and Son as they both put the team first and are genuinely happy for the other person when he hits the back of the net.
