Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham are expected to begin a new round of talks with Bayer Leverkusen for Edmond Taposoba this week.
It is fair to say that many Spurs fans are already quite frustrated by the fact that the club are yet to sign a left-sided centre-back despite the heavy speculation over the last month linking both Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven with moves to N17.
The general consensus over the last two weeks has been that Spurs will sign one of the two, with several sources, including Alasdair Gold (Football.London) suggesting that the Lilywhites view the Leverkusen man as a more ‘readymade option’ that the Wolfsburg defender.
However, Spurs seem to have made more progress in the Van de Ven deal, with Football Insider claiming last week that the Dutchman has already agreed a five-year contract with Tottenham, who are now confident of striking an agreement on a fee with Wolfsburg.
Spurs will make fresh Tapsoba push this week
Romano has now said that the North London side have not given up their pursuit of Tapsoba just yet and remain hopeful of finding a compromise with Leverkusen.
The journalist said on the Caught Offside Debrief Podcast: “[Tottenham] will have new conversations with Bayer Leverkusen for Edmond Tapsoba next (this) week.
“They have a new round of talks with Bayer Leverkusen early next week…my information is that Tapsoba is their number one option, but he’s also more expensive, so it’s important for Tottenham to understand if they can find a compromise on the asking price for Tapsoba.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is clear that the only reason that Tottenham have not finalised the Van de Ven transfer is that the club still retain hope of striking a deal with Leverkusen for Tapsoba.
However, Postecoglou might be getting a little impatient at the moment, given that pre-season is well underway and a crucial position has not yet been strengthened.
