Ange Postecoglou has said that while he is hopeful Harry Kane will remain at Tottenham, he admitted that he has already planned for contingencies in the event that the striker departs.

The speculation from Germany linking Kane with a move to Bayern Munich seems to be getting louder, with Florian Plettenberg revealing at the start of this week that some at the Bundesliga club expect the transfer to be agreed within the next two or three weeks.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare explained on Tuesday that the feeling in the industry is that Spurs would not want to lose the England captain on a free transfer, with the Lilywhites thus expected to sell him for a hefty fee to Bayern if the 29-year-old does not sign a new deal this summer.

On Wednesday, The Independent described the chances of Kane remaining at Tottenham as ’50-50′, explaining that it is now just a matter of the German club making an offer that Daniel Levy would deem acceptable.

Postecoglou is not focusing on Kane rumours

Postecoglou has insisted that despite the speculation over the future of his star striker, his main focus remains on building a team that can compete next season.

When asked if he expects Kane to stay, the Spurs head coach told Football.London: “I certainly hope so.

“Again it’s one of those things where when you’re in this role I’ve learned that you’ve got to deal with the certainties that are before you, because if you start thinking about what happens if that happens and that happens, there are too many things that can be floating in the air at any time, where you lose focus on what’s the most important thing.

“The most important thing for me right now is to build a team that is going to be successful in the Premier League. If I wait to see what an outcome is before I start that process I’m going to lose valuable time.”

However, the Australian did admit that he has some ideas regarding what Spurs would need to do if the club’s talisman departs.

Postecoglou added about Kane: “He’s with the club at the moment. He’s a legend of the football club already. If he retired today they’d still probably build a statue for him. He’s a fantastic guy, a fantastic professional, but with everything in life, there are always uncertainties there.

“I don’t try to predict. You always have contingencies in your head, not just about Harry but about any player, because, knock on wood, someone could get injured on the eve of the season and you’ve got to be ready as a manager for all possibilities.

“It’s one of the attractions of the role I guess, to be able to work with people like Harry and Sonny and the guys who are already premier footballers in their own right but also for the club. Hopefully, I get to work with Harry a lot longer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Bayern are seemingly not pursuing any other alternatives suggests that they are confident that a deal for Kane can be agreed.

It now simply appears o be a case of the German club making the sort of offer that Levy would deem acceptable.

I would not be surprised if we see a repeat of the Bale saga, with Spurs first bringing in several new signings before announcing Kane’s sale.
