A new report out of Turkey claims Besiktas have already made contact with the agent of Japhet Tanganga with a view to signing the Tottenham Hotspur defender this summer.
Tanganga is a product of the Tottenham academy who broke into the first team during Jose Mourinho‘s time in charge of the North London club.
Unfortunately, the young defender has never managed to establish himself as a regular starter at Spurs since.
The 24-year-old made just seven appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites in the 2022/23 campaign, amassing just 343 minutes on the pitch (Transfermarkt).
New Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, is expected to overhaul the squad he has inherited this summer and offload fringe players where possible (Telegraph).
Tanganga has been touted as one of the players who may be on his way out of Spurs, with former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton suggesting his time at the club has come to an end (Football Insider).
Journalist Paul Gilmour has also claimed Tanganga will be a player who is ‘vulnerable’ to leaving Spurs this year (Last Word on Spurs).
Japhet Tanganga is wanted by Besiktas
If Tanganga is headed for the exit, it seems Besiktas are doing their best to get to the front of the queue to snap him up.
A report from Turkish outlet Fotospor claim the Super Lig giants have already made the first step in trying to acquire Tanganga.
Apparently, Besiktas’ top target Lyanco is going to stay with Southampton for the coming season, meaning the Turkish outfit have turned to Tanganga, a player who is attracting the “most attention” from Besiktas boss Senol Gunes.
It is believed Besiktas have now made the “first attempt” to sign Tanganga during the current transfer window, having contacted the player’s agent and told Spurs to keep them in the loop when it comes to the Englishman’s availability.
The report states Besiktas want to sign Tanganga on a loan deal with an option to buy. It is thought Italian side Atalanta are also keen, but it is Besiktas who have “started negotiations.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Sadly, Japhet Tanganga is just never going to be a first-team regular at Spurs, and for the good of his career, he should move on.
He’s a fairly useful player to have in the squad, but it’s not fair to keep him around just to warm the bench.
