Darren Ambrose has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Ivan Toney as Harry Kane’s replacement even though the Brentford star cannot play until January.

Kane’s move to Bayern Munich still seems very much on, with reports indicating that the German club’s hierarchy remain confident of getting the deal over the line despite not being able to meet Tottenham’s valuation as of yet (Fabrizio Romano).

Several names have been put forward over the last few weeks as potential replacements for Kane, including Toney, with Football Transfers claiming two weeks ago that the Lilywhites had identified the Brentford star as the ideal man to take the England captain’s place.

Toney is currently serving a football ban that ends on January 16, due to an eight-month suspension for breaching gambling rules, and it was alleged that Tottenham would be willing to wait until January to sign the England international.

Tottenham should replace Kane with Ivan Toney

However, Ambrose has said that he wants to see Spurs put an end to the Kane saga by accepting Bayern’s offer and signing Toney right away.

The pundit told talkSPORT: “I know Daniel Levy won’t probably do deals with Manchester United, for instance, or definitely not Chelsea.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen. So we might see Kane go out there and come back in a couple of years. Take the money, take the £80 or £100 million, or what it is.

“Someone mentioned it last week, go and sign Ivan Toney. I know he can’t play until January, but you’ve got a proven Premier League goalscorer that can come into the team in January. 20-plus goals again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It would not make much sense for Spurs or any other club to sign Toney this window, given that he cannot play until January. As long as the Brentford star does not sign a new contract, he will be available for a lower fee in six months’ time.
