Contrary to what Fabrizio Romano suggested earlier today, Dan Kilpatrick has claimed via The Evening Standard that Tottenham continue to hold discussions with Rosario Central about loaning Alejo Veliz back to the club.
Multiple outlets over recent hours have backed Spurs to secure Veliz’s signature, with TyC Sports reporter Cesar Luiz Merlo even asserting this morning that the Premier League side have struck a full agreement on a deal worth $17m (£14.6m) plus a further $6m (£5m) in add-ons for the 19-year-old.
Fabrizio Romano subsequently claimed a few hours ago that the Argentine turned down an approach from an unnamed top European club as the striker has his heart set on a move to Tottenham.
The journalist further added that the Lilywhites’ current plan is not to loan the youngster back out to Rosario.
Talks still ongoing on a potential Alejo Veliz loan
Kilpatrick has now revealed in his latest column that Spurs are indeed ‘closing in’ on the signing of Veliz, with Rosaria said to be ‘resigned to losing’ the teenager.
However, he added that the English and Argentine clubs are continuing to discuss the possibility of the striker remaining at his boyhood club on loan until the end of the season.
The journalist explained that Tottenham see Veliz as a player for the future rather than as an immediate first-team prospect.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect that rather than loaning Veliz back to Rosario, Tottenham might want to loan out the 19-year-old to a European side (potentially a club in France, Germany or Portugal) so that the striker can gain some experience at a higher level.
