Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur and his first two months in charge of the club have largely been overshadowed by the ongoing saga surrounding Harry Kane’s future, but the Australian coach insists there are more important things to consider than whether one player stays or goes.

Since taking over at Tottenham earlier this summer, Ange Postecoglou has, fairly quietly, imbued the club and its supporters with a wave of optimism ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The 57-year-old’s promise of attacking football has certainly endeared the fan base to his methods, while his warm, honest persona has seemingly put him in the good books with the media.

However, Postecoglou’s encouraging start to life in North London has been weighed down by the uncertainty over the future of Harry Kane.

The star striker has been the subject of interest from Bayern Munich all summer, but the latest update suggests that the 30-year-old could stay with Spurs after the German club’s most recent bid was rejected (Evening Standard).

Postecoglou is not paying attention to Kane saga

Whether Kane plays under Postecoglou or moves to Germany this summer remains to be seen, but the Spurs boss has ‘more important’ things on his mind.

In an interview courtesy of Football Daily, Postecoglou said: “The team is already playing the way I want them to. We have the foundation of a really good squad, and Harry is the only thing that’s been floating around that has probably been a bit more distracting than I would have liked, and the energy I need.

“Now, as important as Harry is to this group, what’s more important for me is what I do with this group. It’s the same as any other club I’ve been at – the beginnings are always tough.

“At Celtic, I lost the first three games, because we were still buying players until the last day of the window.

“For me, it’s kind of normal. You go into a job knowing they are seeking change, and whenever there is change, the beginning is tough.

“In this case, obviously, Harry is the biggest [challenge]. But you learn to deal with that, to become disciplined and ensure that I don’t just focus on one thing and get distracted from building the team.”

I really hope this Harry Kane situation has not affected Ange Postecoglou’s preparation with the whole squad, and it really doesn’t seem like it has.

I’m confident that, if Kane does leave, Postecoglou will still get a tune out of this team, as he clearly understands that one player is not the be-all and end-all of his system.
