Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a keen eye on Gent starlet Gift Orban amidst the continuing uncertainty over Harry Kane’s future.
Tottenham have already strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of 19-year-old Argentine starlet Alejo Veliz, who is expected to be unveiled as a Spurs player this week subject to passing his medical.
It has emerged over recent days that Spurs also have an eye on another prolific young striker in Orban, with Fabrizio Romano revealing on his YouTube channel over the weekend that the 21-year-old is appreciated by the North London club’s scouting team.
The Times revealed on Saturday that Spurs are willing to pay £20m for the Nigerian, who found the back of the net 20 times in 22 appearances in the second half of last season following his switch to Gent in January.
Strong interest from Spurs in Gift Orban
Gold has now become the latest journalist to report on the matter, stating in his recent column on Football.London that Tottenham have ‘a strong interest’ in Orban.
The journalist explains that Spurs would face some major hurdles in replacing Harry Kane, one of them being the fact that clubs would be aware that Lilywhites have a lot of money to spend.
Gold adds that the club are thus more likely to go for a young player like Orban, and rely primarily on Richarlison to lead the line.
Spurs Web Opinion
The reason why it might not be wise to spend the majority of the Kane money on one big-name striker is because there is no guarantee that the person coming in would be able to succeed in the Premier League.
There is a very real possibility that even the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Randal Kolo Muani and Jonathan David could flop in England. So perhaps Spurs want to hedge their bets by signing two up-and-coming strikers of the mould of Orban, Wahi and Veliz.
