Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that he has already selected his new Tottenham captain ahead of the opening Premier League fixture against Brentford.
Tottenham will likely be without their old club captain Hugo Lloris, who has played no part in pre-season and the club have admitted is seeking a move away.
Meanwhile, vice-captain and pre-season armband wearer, Harry Kane, is close to sealing a transfer to Bayern Munich this weekend (Fabrizio Romano), thus ruling him out of the running.
New Spurs captain is a mystery for now
Spurs fans may have to wait until the team is announced on Sunday until they find out who the next captain is though, as Postecoglou refused to reveal it in his pre-match press conference.
The Spurs boss said he would go through that process tomorrow (Saturday). Although it is unclear whether he has told the Tottenham player in question yet, Postecoglou has been preparing for Harry Kane’s exit for over a month now (FootballLondon).
When asked if he had decided on his next captain, Postecoglou said (FootballLondon): “Yeah I have. I’m not telling you mate. We’ll go through that process tomorrow.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I would say the most likely candidate is Heung-min Son, due to seniority and how much he bleeds for the club. However, new managers often don’t care how long the players have been at the club, as Postecoglou hasn’t been there long himself. So, we could get a surprise choice. Who knows?!
