Ange Postecoglou has said that Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham Hotspur might open the door for the other players to rise to the occasion and take more responsibility.
The question of how Spurs are going to replace Kane will be at the forefront of most Tottenham fans’ minds at the moment, with the 30-year-old’s goals having carried the Lilywhites for the best part of the last decade.

Reports over the last week have indicated that Richarlison will be trusted to lead the line during the upcoming season, with Spurs expected to sign a young, up-and-coming striker such as Gift Orban to offer competition to the Brazilian (Football.London).
Postecoglou has now suggested that some of Tottenham’s players could now step up following Kane’s departure, insisting the club can still find a way to improve despite losing their best player.
The Australian told Football.London: “Potentially [players will emerge]. All you can do is create that space and see what grows from there.
“There is sometimes that element where people suppress themselves to an extent because they understand that there is a unique individual in the room that has such great presence and is such a force on and off the field.
“Having that space there maybe does [bring people out], but there’s no guarantee it does either. The opportunity is there. Put it that way. With all these things there’s opportunity.
“What you’ve got to try to do is what the great clubs do, the great organisations: replace greatness with greatness. How that comes about is not easy, but that’s what the big clubs do. They find a way to sustain and maintain and grow even when the greatest leave their doors.”
Heung-min Son could now be a Spurs striker
Over the years, one man who has shouldered the goalscoring burden whenever Kane has been injured is Son Heung-min, and Postcoglou admitted that he is very much open to using the South Korean centrally.
When asked about Son operating as a number nine, the Spurs head coach said: “Yeah, I wouldn’t rule it out. I’ve known Sonny for a long time and watched his career develop. There’s no doubt he could play centrally, especially with the way we play. That’s where the nuances lie.
“Managers have different ways of setting up their teams and with some teams, I could see how Sonny couldn’t play as a central striker but the way we play, and the way we’re going to play, I definitely see him as an option as a central striker.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I have no doubt that the likes of Son, Richarlison and Kulusevski will deliver a lot more goals this season now that Spurs do not have Kane to bail them out.
However, whether that would be enough to cover for the 30-year-old’s loss, remains to be seen.
